Spring, I Wonder what I am Seeing?

http://www.almanac.com/content/predicting-winter-weather-woolly-bear-caterpillars

http://www.almanac.com/image/woolly-worm-almanac

I pasted this photo from the woolly bear caterpillar web-site but I have seen plenty here in our yard.

Do Woolly Bear Caterpillars Forecast Winter Weather?

According to legend, the wider that middle brown section is (i.e., the more brown segments there are), the milder the coming winter will be. Conversely, a narrow brown band is said to predict a harsh winter. But is it true?

My Photograph; spring is coming!

The last one I saw was mostly brown with short black ends so I suppose from this web-site - it will be spring before too long.

I did not know they over-winter and turn into butterflies

  • As moths go, the Isabella isn't much to look at compared with other species, but its immature larva, called the black-ended bear or the woolly bear (and, throughout the South, woolly worm) is one of the few caterpillars most people can identify.
  • This medium-size moth, with yellowish-orange and cream-colored wings spotted with black, is common from northern Mexico throughout the United States and across the southern third of Canada.

Oh, I will have to watch for these! Very pretty indeed!

I found this one on my deck and I was nice to it and put it down under the cabin deck with the new ferns sprouting. It was very dry so I even sprinkled some water around for it.

Deep Poop I believe, does anyone know, I see this in the woods a lot when wandering?

While I am asking, I wonder what turns this wood log BLUE?

And, I found the flowers all over the ground under a big tree

I wondered what they were but I went back to find a tree leaf and YES!  I could not find the tree again!

It was a huge tree with these all  over the ground and the flowers were Very, very high towards the sky.

When I looked I thought it was an early dogwood flower after thinking it might be a sourwood too, but I think both ideas are wrong.

But, I did see dogwoods in bloom after our rain last week and I took a photo of it, you can see a squirrels' nest in the background.

and , beside my front porch photo of Dogwood in bloom

I saw the pink blooming tree at a house that is for sale yesterday and I wondered what it is too!
It looks like Pink Tulips, but not like the Tulip Trees in our yard.

Maybe it is a Pink Magnolia, I asked on Hometalk where I can always find answers to any questions I ask and many new friends confirmed it.

I saw this growing on a log beside my front porch on the shady cool side that butts up against a rock wall, it is called a "Gray Urn Mushroom". I do not yet have it listed but I will soon. IT is the first mushroom I have seen in awhile and I found ore in the woods when I was collecting a moss order. It was raining this day and I tried to clean it on my covered porch in a tiny area.

It takes more than just collecting moss in the woods, I bring it home and try to clean it as best I can. I never
take all I find in a certain area and usually get the moss the deer have kicked up that is already loose.
I use the forest leaves to pack it in and keep separated as best I can, also the lichen and British Soldier are under the leaves along with a tiny fern.

This is a wintergreen plant ( striped green leaves) sticking out of the turkey tub, but it had too much soil attached to send it for the shipping fees since the ferns were requested.

Well, Another busy day, I got my once a month paycheck overnight and I have errands... I am also cleaning my warehouse and trying to go though my clothing I have not worn to donate. I also am sorting though so many magazines I have saved (I know, I hoard them) I will try and list some on EBay and if old enough on Etsy also.  I am also going through my book collection, I Just have to part with some, I am just over whelmed with no storage space and do not foresee any more room.  I also have bins of fabrics and fabric pieces from de-constructed clothing I  intended to re-make into hand bags and mixed media collages. I have pockets, and collars, arms with cuffs, etc. Many have embroidery and interesting appeals to me on them.

Here is an apron I re-made for an exchange many years ago. It had a hole in the area I added the pocket too.

And, Oh! and also I have a bin of real  vintage aprons upstairs to list!

Pine Tree Crosses for Easter are here, Fairy Crosses,Trillium, and Mushrooms !

https://www.etsy.com/listing/185632617/photograph-pine-tree-cross-crosses?ref=shop_home_active_2

My husband and I were in the forest searching for a tool left somewhere, We did not locate it but I will one day when I am back lurking around.

We did see the early signs of spring with the Pine Tree Crosses that bloom before Easter. They are just beautiful and a sign that it will come if we just wait.

I took a photo and put int in my Etsy shop with my other Photography of country findings!

Here is my Photography section of my shop, I Have so many more photos to add, it just takes time.

https://www.etsy.com/shop/ByLightOfMoon?section_id=12946490&ref=shopsection_leftnav_8

I also added a photo of the Fairy Crosses I have found, I  Have a jar full that I have sifted through and
Love them. Some are large, small, tiny , and eeny meeny but they are there.

All of the stone here are so enchanting to me, they really shine when wet!

When in the woods yesterday I saw many Trillium shoots sprouting up in the forest and last year I took this photo in my yard.

They will look like this before too long!

I have not seen many mushrooms this year yet, we have been dry although  it is raining today! I saw the "Gray Urn" Mushroom on a log beside my house and then also when I went  to the forest for an order of moss.

These are just a few of my findings lately!

Thanks for dropping by!

October Mornings!

When I go outside in the mornings now the spider webs are more visible, I ask my husband why? Their last hurrah he said!
They are so much more around me or I am more aware of them and they are truly a work of art!
They look like tiny sailboats on the bushes and I noticed my porch birdhouse was full from the nearby mason jars filled with tiny ferns from the forest!  Why I feel like a need to go get my camera and share it? I don't know!

The sound I related this morning to the sparkling noise I think I was hearing from the morning dew or fog surrounding me sounded like the old fourth of July sparklers which by the way this year when I got some in July, they made no sound! Not like when I was a child and they made noise like I heard from the dew this AM, they were metal when I grew up and this year they were paper I suppose. Maybe that is why they were silent, but nature still is aware as it was like a star sprinkling morning with the noise of dew falling or evaporating around me. The car and the leaves on the trees were wet or damp.

On my Hydranga above and porch below

I picked by the roadside these asters that are growing on the roadsides everywhere near us.

These came up from last year and I asked on Hometalk what they were?
~ Ageratum !  I was told, I have found this site to be so informative for me identifying plants and ideas for just about anything!

Here is a link to my main page!
Or, I have added the side link to my page also.

I think I am taking bringing the forest close to me a little  too far!
These terrariums I made I believe I will put the plants back into the forest. I enjoyed them over the summer and I intended to sell them but I never made it to the Saturday mornings markets!

I have enough to bring inside for the winter.
Lily was on the porch with me watching the hummingbirds! They were buzzing around over her head really  trying to get the bee to leave!

Have a fabulous day!

Young Harris, GA Rodeo and Flea Market Finds! A Friday well spent! May 17, 2013

I replied to an Etsy message and it looked like it was turning into a blog post so I will take it again from here.

We just returned from a rodeo tonight ( Friday Night)  and my first one.  I will post photos on my blog and face book, I loved meeting the cowboys.  My husband and I have both deceived we are REALLY  OLD after walking n a pasture and sitting on bleacher seats, Just a few years ago, I walked with a cane and could not wear shoes and socks, just sandals with my neuropathy!

I can hear the whip'o will outside singing its'  little heart out - over and over - and over again!
They sing every evening and morning without doubt and I love hearing them.

OK, Friday,  I started a couple of errands and went by a Flea Market to see how busy they were because I needed to be there selling my extra things!  Of course, no intensions of buying like the story goes, I should have not had any cash in my pocket, but I got some for Mother's Day along with my favorite shoes( 4 Pairs! I have been begging her for more than the first pair I got from my daughter!) and Yankee Candle along with diffuser set. Love the "Fluffy Towel" scent! I also got a beautiful new Golden Retriever mouse pad which I am using and coasters to match. Plus Hunter ( my Grandog) sent me some cash and so did my daughter and son in law! Way, over the top in gifts!

But, back to the flea market! There was no much happening in the outside table area but the barn had enough folks in it for me to go broke!  I could not believe the great finds offered and I had to snag a few.
My first purchase was a Vintage Antique Brass I guess Bird cage! Yes! Had to have at $10 price and I got it for $8 because I bought more stuff from this couple.  They had several items I can use in my mixed media art and fairy gardens.

OK, down the road I went after and on the way I saw a pasture with a lot of activity and it was a rodeo set up! I stopped and took some photos which is nothing new because I do this all the time. It drives my husband crazy for me to ask to stop and go back but he was not with me, I just had the dogs with me. They love traveling with us anywhere and are good riders.

Here are a few of the early photos, the riding area was not yet plowed I noticed when I went back through the pictures from the morning scene to when we did go back that evening for the show. A good way for a farmer to get his garden plowed because this nice gentleman donated the property site for the Rodeo and all the proceeds went to the Towns County, GA FFA groups!

The two vintage fire trucks were awesome when I returned and got some close up shops! They had pop- out to open front windows and wood ladders on one side with the hoses on the others side.
We arrived and sat on first row seat of bleachers, bringing our cushions to sit on and my  husband later wished he had worn his back brace.  I can't sit still very long with my Small fiber Neuropathy so I got up and walked around to see what all was happening before the show started. We don't get out much and go too many places so it was fun to just see the crowd of families there!

When I saw the Cowboys' out walking around and I also went back where they houses and steers where staged behind the big arena for the show. I was so delighted and enchanted by their boots and spurs! They wrap their ankles to keep their boots on as you can see in some photos. One Cowboy had a huge brass buckle and I asked if he won as a prize, NO, but his uncle had many years ago and gave it to him. HE was very proud of it and it was just beautiful!  Most of the belts were big and fancy! I also got some photos of their equipment they used, I had no idea what for until the show started and I saw a rodeo for the first time.
And, front row close!  I missed photos of the girl rider who straddled three horses and went through a ring flame of fire with them but I saw it and she was awesome!  We enjoyed the barrel racing and I was a little sorry for the baby calks roping but it did not hurt them, just made them mad to be tied up!  They were glad to get untied after 6 seconds.

I met one cowboy who was dear to me. He is graduating high school in two weeks and moving to Charlotte, NC where the Rodeo appeal is bigger I guess! More adventure and opportunity for him to make a career.  He won the Steer riding last year and came in 2nd place this year. For Saturday night rodeo he was on to another site as new riders came in for the second show of the weekend. This was the Third annual Show and I look forward to next year and more Rodeo's in the future.
