Terror in my heart this AM  

I walked outside to drink my coffee this morning and I had just sat down when our hummers started buzzing their feeder hanging from our cabin eve overhanging from the roof when one of the hummingbirds fell and was hanging by its' beak caught in a spider string web. It was helpless and my heart went to my stomach.  I am still shaking but I took my wood incense burner stick and twirled it in the spider web and then freed the tiny bird just hanging upside down from it. Those webs are so strong, I broke it and freed the bird and it flew away.  Oh, Thank Goodness I was there!  What was seconds seemed like a lifetime!

SO, watch your hummingbird feeders, I could not see this web hanging down until the hummer was attached to it, so I took my incense stick and went all around the feeder  to rid any more webs that might be close. And, I will check out any webs on our porch  later when it gets more daylight.  Fate had me go outside when I did, my good deed saved the day, clap on chest!

What have I been doing?

Still gardening, this has proved to be a much bigger project than planned time for. I am finding so many new invasive plants  that I have no idea what they are and pulling them.  One great way to ID them is to ask at "Hometalk"! ( links on sidebar) I always get great replies there and lots of new ideas!  I know I do not want to keep them and maybe I will put down some sheeting this fall when the good things are the only ones left.  I do NOT want them again next year. 

All the trees we cut down earlier in the spring are coming back too. Behind my rose trellis is a wooded area I plant moss and I thought the trees were giving my roses too much shade so we got out our reciprocating saw and down many of them came only to have sprouts coming back and some have stickers which I really hate.  Then we burned them in our fire pit.  It was a big job, if it was not a Sassafras tree it came down.  I love them and we  have many in our yard and forest surrounding us.

I dug up roots the first year we were here to make tea and it was wonderful. They spread roots and as I was first making my garden, they came up when digging near them.   Heck, I am still collecting leaves from them  being the horrid squirrel I am, saving everything.

But, I am really going to De-Stash now! I have too, I just have too much Stuff! Forest Nature Collections of about anything I find, things I brought from my consignment shops  when we moved here and an attic and warehouse full of vintage items.  I need to start ironing them.   I am going to close my consignment shop here as this area is just too depressed with the economy, once the vacationers leave , no sales to speak of and I think I will do better with y on-line sites, Etsy,  Ebay,  Threadflip and a rare Bonanza listing. I have really let that shop lax as no time to promote it , I mainly sell on Etsy but items to NEW for there will be on Ebay as " frstyfrolk" my Vintage Etsy shop name where I first started.   I started selling on Ebay to pay my medical bills when I found some of my Mother-In-Law's Vintage eyeglasses and jewelry. She wore those cat's eye glasses and they got me hooked that I could sell them.  I still have lots of her jewelry and vanity trinkets.  I also have lots of them myself.   Mine are so sentimental to me I have just boxed them but no see, no think and I also do not wear jewelry here in the mountains like I did with city living. Plus I turn "65" this year and more money for Medicare will be deducted  from  my SS paycheck which was small enough to begin with. But, I will have health insurance, But,  I doubt I will use it enough to be worthwhile.  It starts this month making me take drastic measures to be able to just get by!

I hate always talking about hard times but we just never saw this coming!

Live Forest Moss Collecting Terrariums Fairy Gnome Hobbit Sprite Gardens

I love being in the forest and collecting moss that I sell in my ByLightOfMoon Etsy shop which has become a Nature and Supplies Shop more than when I first opened it 6 years ago. I just had my Sixth Anniversary with this shop!  It  has been a good and fun Six years!

I have learned so much since we moved to the forest! We retired and moved here 3 1/2 years ago and before that I lived in the city, I had always lived in a city.

At first I was selling crafting supplies separate from my Vintage Etsy shop "frstyfrolk Dragonfly Dreams" which was my shop for  Vintage in Good Condition " and my vintage supplies that I craft with was in my supplies ByLightOfMoon shop!

I took moss for granted when we lived in the city but now I can walk right out my front door and be in the forest where we used to drive for hours to vacation in the woods and camp, hike,and raft, in fact, our community is a tourist destination and motorcycles come here to ride the two lane curvy roads and folks have second vacation homes here.  We are two hours from any big city!

Here is the moss when I find in in the forest and I collected what the deer have kicked up and also some small amounts from a clump or loose moss I find just lying around. It can dry out but comes right back when watered, it is very resilient.

Here is how it looks after cleaned it as I went in the forest to get the pine needles and leaf collections off of it.

I don;t think my buyers realize how much is involved in collecting moss as I can't just go get it and put it in a bag. It does involve a lot of my time.   Time is what I have and not $$$ so I enjoy it but it helps to buy gas and groceries between paydays.  And, it does take a lot of time to process an order but I try very hard for 24-48 house shipping and always with tracking number sent to my buyers.

Sometimes I collect ferns also as was this order.

Here is was freezing weather last week and I had to bring it inside to work on it.

I have had a lot of fun forcing bulbs with the pussy willow I wrote about in and earlier post.
Not much room and I brought the white table holding the forced blooms downstairs from the attic craft room, this area looks to our back yard where I dream of sitting and reading a good book. On the table, I have pussy willow, hyacinth in  Two Purple's (Light and dark) and had two pinks in bloom that have faded. I will plant them outside. The far pink in Kalanchoe in a beautiful Fushia color.  The book table is holding the bulbs I was given and had pussy willow planted in them but they did not bloom like they do in just fresh water. And, the planter with the water globe is Swedish Ivy that was doing bad upstairs so I brought it down and it revived beautifully. It is cold in the attic but I still have my aloe and succulents, geraniums, and some other plants there, we will see if they survive the winter.

Another neat thing I have found in my area I live in is pink streaked sand. It just fascinated me when I found it as it was under the grey mica sand I collect for my potting soil and terrariums.  It reminds me of sherbet ice cream!

It is just amazing isn't it?  Just lovely! A great find!

I had fun sharing my collections with you.  I am also building my wall with extra and a different kind of moss I find to cover the rock and try to look a little nicer!

We also have the bear return for a visit last week, she got into my finch feeder and took off with her one end of it. It was a green plastic globe at each end with the finch feeder inside, she also took the suet from two suet holders, usually she takes all of it but, we have repaired them from her earlier visits and I suppose they came apart easily and all she took was the suet, thanks goodness! I am so glad she did not bother or nice wood feeders. We got two lighthouses for Christmas and have a log cabin feeder up also. She already has destroyed one, I never found anything but the roof before.

Off to get to my day! I have another moss order., thank goodness!

Old Beam Flashlight turned into Potting Soil Shovel Diggers ~ Re-Cycle Up-cycle Re-Use

                                             

I was over-joyed yesterday when my husband gave me a second old broken flash beam light! I just took off the screws and had two pieces that I use for digging out of the very large bag the products I use to make potting soil.

I make my own soil since we have a lot of clay here by using sphagnum peat moss , sand, and Good Ol' Mother Earth, topsoil, sometimes potting soil.  I add bone meal to this and this re-cycled Up-cycled Shovel Digger helps me to collect my sphagnum peat soil and from the large bag it comes in. Same thing with vermiculite if I use it and I collect sand for mixing as filler. It makes my potting soil much less compact for my gardening.

We had 4-6 inches of snow last week on top of the 4 inches we already had on the ground, crunch , crunch and now mush, mush:

And after I took the snow off, it is as perky and green as ever! The British Soldier are thriving and looking good. 

This one across from the other I put leaves on top of the Succulents here and have not completely got them out yet, I pull on the leaf until it comes loose by itself.

OK, I got more leaves off here. 

I treated myself to these items on a Valentine Day sale

I adore the owl card and just could not resist, The jello mold might be useful in crafting, and the Love to the Moon and Back is just me! I love it! 

I have also been cleaning out my warehouse to make more room and going through my crafting room in the attic to actually make room for crafting and moving out some STUFF or JUNK as my family calls it. I have boxes and bookcases full of Books and Magazines I have saved over the years and it is time to let them go to someone else, But, I love looking through them (like I have time) but, they make me smile and refresh my mind which I call " Mental Floss" 

When I laid them out, I was enchanted by them, can I let  them go? 

I will be listing in my "frstyfrolk Etsy Vintage store and Ebay listings"  ,the newer ones not yet vintage unless they can be supplies for crafting, great scrapbook pictures and my hand cut punches in many designs. 

Now, the Gnome nook I just got and it was handy, I will not be selling it anytime soon.  That is my thing, fairies, hobbits, gnomes, elves, sprites, and living in the forest I encounter little presents they leave for me to find with my forest finds and trinkets.  I look for moss and forest finds right out my front door and you can see in the  neighborhood from the winter pictures. 

They give me wonderful ideas to embellish my crafting projects when I need to get busy doing instead of always trying to focus on moving things around that is hard to me to let go! 

I have to let go in 2015!
