Terror in my heart this AM  

I walked outside to drink my coffee this morning and I had just sat down when our hummers started buzzing their feeder hanging from our cabin eve overhanging from the roof when one of the hummingbirds fell and was hanging by its' beak caught in a spider string web. It was helpless and my heart went to my stomach.  I am still shaking but I took my wood incense burner stick and twirled it in the spider web and then freed the tiny bird just hanging upside down from it. Those webs are so strong, I broke it and freed the bird and it flew away.  Oh, Thank Goodness I was there!  What was seconds seemed like a lifetime!

SO, watch your hummingbird feeders, I could not see this web hanging down until the hummer was attached to it, so I took my incense stick and went all around the feeder  to rid any more webs that might be close. And, I will check out any webs on our porch  later when it gets more daylight.  Fate had me go outside when I did, my good deed saved the day, clap on chest!

What have I been doing?

Still gardening, this has proved to be a much bigger project than planned time for. I am finding so many new invasive plants  that I have no idea what they are and pulling them.  One great way to ID them is to ask at "Hometalk"! ( links on sidebar) I always get great replies there and lots of new ideas!  I know I do not want to keep them and maybe I will put down some sheeting this fall when the good things are the only ones left.  I do NOT want them again next year. 

All the trees we cut down earlier in the spring are coming back too. Behind my rose trellis is a wooded area I plant moss and I thought the trees were giving my roses too much shade so we got out our reciprocating saw and down many of them came only to have sprouts coming back and some have stickers which I really hate.  Then we burned them in our fire pit.  It was a big job, if it was not a Sassafras tree it came down.  I love them and we  have many in our yard and forest surrounding us.

I dug up roots the first year we were here to make tea and it was wonderful. They spread roots and as I was first making my garden, they came up when digging near them.   Heck, I am still collecting leaves from them  being the horrid squirrel I am, saving everything.

But, I am really going to De-Stash now! I have too, I just have too much Stuff! Forest Nature Collections of about anything I find, things I brought from my consignment shops  when we moved here and an attic and warehouse full of vintage items.  I need to start ironing them.   I am going to close my consignment shop here as this area is just too depressed with the economy, once the vacationers leave , no sales to speak of and I think I will do better with y on-line sites, Etsy,  Ebay,  Threadflip and a rare Bonanza listing. I have really let that shop lax as no time to promote it , I mainly sell on Etsy but items to NEW for there will be on Ebay as " frstyfrolk" my Vintage Etsy shop name where I first started.   I started selling on Ebay to pay my medical bills when I found some of my Mother-In-Law's Vintage eyeglasses and jewelry. She wore those cat's eye glasses and they got me hooked that I could sell them.  I still have lots of her jewelry and vanity trinkets.  I also have lots of them myself.   Mine are so sentimental to me I have just boxed them but no see, no think and I also do not wear jewelry here in the mountains like I did with city living. Plus I turn "65" this year and more money for Medicare will be deducted  from  my SS paycheck which was small enough to begin with. But, I will have health insurance, But,  I doubt I will use it enough to be worthwhile.  It starts this month making me take drastic measures to be able to just get by!

I hate always talking about hard times but we just never saw this coming!

I won a gift certificate with the Folk Art and Primitives Group Giveaway on Etsy team. Oh, I am delighted!

I won from CtrysideCottage Shop and she has the most amazing variety of hand crafted items she makes, She likes mixed media as I do also but I am not much of a sewing machine type until I get my tension fixed on my machine. Oh, I have to get that fixed I have so many ideas in my head.

It was hard for me to choose which Item I wanted to use my gift certificate on but, I finally choose a really cute Bunny Box with Sweet Annie which I am anxious to see as I grew some last summer and dried but have not used it yet on anything. I want to see if what I have its the same thing! I also adore the firecrackers!  How cute is this? 

Here is the item I chose and I am looking forward to adding it to my front porch table across from where I sit all the time. I love my front porch as you all already know. I spend much of my time there when not roaming the forest!

I Started some seeds for growing Lavender yesterday and later in the night I thought maybe I should have put some clear plastic over the pots which I intended to do this AM but when I thought more about it I said to myself, WHY don;t I use the Pan Lid Covers I have collected to use for something?  So, I did! 

I had seen a post somewhere about using these pan covers to make some creation I was interested in doing and now I cannot remember what it was. It must have had something to do with a kitchen towel holder or a outdoor hanging,  somehow but I just don't remember.... 

I filled the pots with leaf mulch which I have plenty of living in the forest and some sand I got from a roadside in our neighborhood  that had filled a ditch when it rains or the snow melted. I could just scoop it up and I filled a 5 gallon tub with it for future use also, very heavy!  It is filled with mica that I love, it just sparkles! 

I also used a new bag of some" seed starting potting soil", I want these Lavender Seeds to sprout and grow very Bad!  I want to Do It Right! 

I can't wait for Lavender to grow this summer and I have another packet to plant that I saved for later.  I have some I saved from last summer and left some plants in the ground for the winter to see how they do. 

I intended to make sachets with them.  Another thing On my To do list!  I need my sewing machine fixed, see , I really do.

Vintage Wallpaper Finds!

I joined a Vintage Wallpaper Group on Facebook as I have collected quite a bit and this is my latest find. I spoke of these in my last post , just had no photos ready yet. And, I still need to get them listed in my Vintage Etsy Shop "  frstyfrolk"

Quite abandoned and lost for me to find it. 

There is quite a bit left on the roll but the first yard or so is pretty shabby and worn.

I started collecting when I had my Vintage Trailer " Daisy" and I have quite a few borders from her collecting days.

I also found this Apples theme at a church sale and Hollie Hobbie at the Charity Thrift shop, I don;t need them, just can't pass them over. Maybe to use in Mixed Media crafting!

I also had this for Daisy, these Primitive Pioneer Women are so cute!

Young Harris, GA Rodeo and Flea Market Finds! A Friday well spent! May 17, 2013

I replied to an Etsy message and it looked like it was turning into a blog post so I will take it again from here.

We just returned from a rodeo tonight ( Friday Night)  and my first one.  I will post photos on my blog and face book, I loved meeting the cowboys.  My husband and I have both deceived we are REALLY  OLD after walking n a pasture and sitting on bleacher seats, Just a few years ago, I walked with a cane and could not wear shoes and socks, just sandals with my neuropathy!

I can hear the whip'o will outside singing its'  little heart out - over and over - and over again!

They sing every evening and morning without doubt and I love hearing them.

OK, Friday,  I started a couple of errands and went by a Flea Market to see how busy they were because I needed to be there selling my extra things!  Of course, no intensions of buying like the story goes, I should have not had any cash in my pocket, but I got some for Mother's Day along with my favorite shoes( 4 Pairs! I have been begging her for more than the first pair I got from my daughter!) and Yankee Candle along with diffuser set. Love the "Fluffy Towel" scent! I also got a beautiful new Golden Retriever mouse pad which I am using and coasters to match. Plus Hunter ( my Grandog) sent me some cash and so did my daughter and son in law! Way, over the top in gifts!

But, back to the flea market! There was no much happening in the outside table area but the barn had enough folks in it for me to go broke!  I could not believe the great finds offered and I had to snag a few.

 My first purchase was a Vintage Antique Brass I guess Bird cage! Yes! Had to have at $10 price and I got it for $8 because I bought more stuff from this couple.  They had several items I can use in my mixed media art and fairy gardens.

OK, down the road I went after and on the way I saw a pasture with a lot of activity and it was a rodeo set up! I stopped and took some photos which is nothing new because I do this all the time. It drives my husband crazy for me to ask to stop and go back but he was not with me, I just had the dogs with me. They love traveling with us anywhere and are good riders.

Here are a few of the early photos, the riding area was not yet plowed I noticed when I went back through the pictures from the morning scene to when we did go back that evening for the show. A good way for a farmer to get his garden plowed because this nice gentleman donated the property site for the Rodeo and all the proceeds went to the Towns County, GA FFA groups!

The two vintage fire trucks were awesome when I returned and got some close up shops! They had pop- out to open front windows and wood ladders on one side with the hoses on the others side.

We arrived and sat on first row seat of bleachers, bringing our cushions to sit on and my  husband later wished he had worn his back brace.  I can't sit still very long with my Small fiber Neuropathy so I got up and walked around to see what all was happening before the show started. We don't get out much and go too many places so it was fun to just see the crowd of families there!

When I saw the Cowboys' out walking around and I also went back where they houses and steers where staged behind the big arena for the show. I was so delighted and enchanted by their boots and spurs! They wrap their ankles to keep their boots on as you can see in some photos. One Cowboy had a huge brass buckle and I asked if he won as a prize, NO, but his uncle had many years ago and gave it to him. HE was very proud of it and it was just beautiful!  Most of the belts were big and fancy! I also got some photos of their equipment they used, I had no idea what for until the show started and I saw a rodeo for the first time.

And, front row close!  I missed photos of the girl rider who straddled three horses and went through a ring flame of fire with them but I saw it and she was awesome!  We enjoyed the barrel racing and I was a little sorry for the baby calks roping but it did not hurt them, just made them mad to be tied up!  They were glad to get untied after 6 seconds.

I met one cowboy who was dear to me. He is graduating high school in two weeks and moving to Charlotte, NC where the Rodeo appeal is bigger I guess! More adventure and opportunity for him to make a career.  He won the Steer riding last year and came in 2nd place this year. For Saturday night rodeo he was on to another site as new riders came in for the second show of the weekend. This was the Third annual Show and I look forward to next year and more Rodeo's in the future.

Sweet Bittersweet Vines!

I have been collecting some bittersweet I found and I started making some wreaths with grapevine backing and just the bittersweet tied in rounds. I also decorated some baskets handles with it and then filled one with a collection of pine cones and forest findings. Another basket I made I added dried hydrangea . I decided the hydrangea needed a base to sit into so I collected some curly grass I find and love. It is perfect for making birds' nests or anything . It has beautiful colors in it when looked at closely!

I sprayed all of them with a preservative and hope they last OK!  I think I will add them to my consignment shops locally or maybe list on Etsy .

I also found this neat broom at the thrift shop and it HAD to have the bittersweet added and I was so enchanted with how it turned out!  I may not be able to stop as I still have some extra to play around with.
